Foxie update

This is a picture of Foxie before her surgery when we had to soak her paw to try to coax out the foxtail. While it didn't come out on its own, the surgery was successful and they were able to get it out. She is fully recovered now and back to her jolly self. Notice Benny's concern for his sister!

My big catch

White trigger fish caught by Yelapa, Mexico.

25 weeks

I am 25 weeks today and feeling pretty pregnant. Just when I think I don't look quite so pregnant, the pics tell a different story. But I can't say I'm not loving every minute of it :)
25 weeks is a milestone of sorts as babies born at this stage will survive if born prematurely. Of course, I think baby is quite enjoying itself in my belly judging by all the moving around so I don't think we have anything to worry about. Baby has also aquired the ability to cry and over the next month its brain will be growing at its fastest rate. Our little one is also now starting to put some meat on its bones and the skin is starting to smoothen out and lose its wrinkled texture.
Hard to believe only 3.5 months to go!

Sunny days

We got back from Mexico Sunday night and our vacation was awesome. It was super relaxing and the weather was amazing. We had some delicious meals - the highlight being the two Catch of the Day meals we had at Four Seasons. The fisherman brought in the fish they had caught that morning and Chef then went on to talk about each fish. We then chose the fish we wanted and could have it prepared any way we wanted. Chef gave us ideas for best ways for each fish and we ended up with amazing yellow-fin tuna and grouper for lunch and red snapper and triple tail for dinner. Couldn't get any fresher really (once we edit our pics some more you will be able to see these beauties for yourself!)
We spent lots of time at the pool and the beach of course - just relaxing :) One of the most exciting things baby and I did was go parasailing! The view was incredible and getting a birds eye view of a bird or two was pretty cool too! Jim, Mike and I also went out on a fishing boat, the Coco Loco II, two mornings. Didn't catch anything of significance but saw gazillions of jellyfish and the mornings were just so calm and quiet. We did some snorkeling and also went to Yelapa, a little "town" only accessible by boat one of those mornings. Loved Mexico and of course we both have a case of the vacation blues and already thinking about when and where we can go on our next one. Apparently the vacation before baby is called a babymoon and I think ours was pretty perfect. Next big vacation will be with baby :)

Wow

Holy crap - the doc's office just called to schedule the rest of my regular check up appointments - I have one in July, 2 in August, and starting in September, I have one a week! I can't believe I am scheduling appointments til the end of my pregnancy - the next few months are going to FLY by!

Nasty foxtails

Our poor lil Foxie is going in for surgery this morning to (hopefully) have one of these gnarly foxtails removed from her hind paw. We noticed her foot swelling last week and thought perhaps she was stung by a bee or something but when the swelling didn't go down and we took her in on Monday, the vet said right away that he suspected one of these nasty things. Now that the grasses are dry, these things are super common for dogs to get here in CA. They usually get them in their ears, nose, or paws and once they go in, they really can't work themselves out and can cause really bad problems. Foxie has been on antiobiotics this week and has been a great patient but unfortunately her foot has only gotten worse and so she is going in. Benny hasn't left her side and has been licking her ears, foot, eyes and Foxie doesn't mind one bit. Don't worry Fox, we'll have you all better in just a few hours.

My sweet mango

At 23 weeks, our baby weighs about as much as a mango - just over a pound and is about 11+ inches long. Baby seems to be most active in the afternoon and in the evening though as I type this baby is letting me know s/he is there :) Had a doc appt on Tuesday and of course heard the heart beat again - and it was just as exciting to hear it as the first time. I have gained 13 pounds since week 12, 15 is average so I'm right in line. I'm feeling a lot more full and my belly button is getting closer and closer to being at "outty." I did my first official maternity clothes shopping yesterday - bought some super comfy jeans, pants and a sundress at Gap Maternity. Gotta be comfortable - and look good! - for Mexico!! We leave tomorrow and I'm SO ready.

Class of 2008

This weekend we went to Samantha's high school graduation and graduation party at Mike's house (Samantha is Jim's niece and the only grandchild on either side, Mike is Jim's brother). It was a lot of fun and Samantha is looking forward to finally getting a cousin...who will be class of 2026??!
It was a gorgeous day on Sunday so we went to the beach with the pups and lazed around for a few hours in the sun to get a bit more color for our Mexico trip. We are headed to Puerto Vallarta on Saturday for a family trip with Jim's mom, sister Laura, Mike and his gf Pede, Samantha and her friend Leah. We are staying at the Westin Puerto Vallarta and then Jim and I are headed to Four Seasons Punta Mita for a couple nights by ourselves - gotta love the employee comp nights! I am super excited as I've never been to Mexico - I think I am most excited about all that Mexican food...well and of course, just lounging around relaxing. Jim tells me I'm going to love Mexico and I bet he's right.

Sweet deals

I went out for lunch and ended up going to Baby Gap. Got several things for baby - my first baby clothes purchase! - for $17!! Gotta love the cute stuff you can find on sale - this adorable little "in a while crocodile" bodysuit was $3.99. Can't go wrong with that!

22 weeks

This morning I had a dream that I was at the docs office and she sat my patient file down and I saw a piece of paper that had a bunch of measurements on it and said "Boy." I wasn't sure I should tell Jim but then I did and we decided to confirm and sure enough, I was going to have a boy. Of course it was just a dream but we'll see how good my "maternal instincts" are!
At 22 weeks, our baby is the size of a spaghetti squash - about a pound and 11 inches long. Amongst other things, baby's fingernails are now fully formed and baby will be ready for its first nail trim upon birth!!
I am feeling baby move, not consistently, but it's so cool. It's such a strange sensation but makes me all giddy inside :) Since baby can hear now, Jim and I talk to baby so s/he can get to know our voices...and you know, just to start preparing baby for the outside world with us.

Perks

So I was on my way home yesterday and got onto Bart (our subway system) at a different stop than the usual as I had some errands to run. This stop is much more crowded and therefore hard to get a seat. I was resigned to standing and had settled into my spot when a nice woman offered me her seat. At first I declined but she insisted so I said ok. It then dawned on me that I had just gotten my first pregnant lady perk :)
